ANTIQUE ENGLISH 15K GOLD AMETHYST PERIDOT PEARL SUFFRAGETTE BROOCH PENDANT c1910
An antique English, solid 15 carat gold combined brooch & pendant / lavaliere; beautifully made in the Suffragette colours, set with pearls, a peridot and an amethyst drop.
Pretty, collectible & so wearable!
The colours green, white and violet supposedly translate to 'Give Women Votes'. This is apparently just a notion, the reality is much more romantic, as quoted by suffragette Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence: "Purple as everyone knows is the royal colour. It stands for the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity; white stands for purity in private and public life; green is the colour of hope and the emblem of spring."
CONDITION: Generally very good. Slightest signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Some tiny pearls missing, easily replaced.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1910. Stamped '15ct'.
DIMENSIONS: 2 inches long (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 5.3 grams.
