ANTIQUE EUROPEAN ART NOUVEAU SILVER NATURAL PEARL COILED SNAKES BROOCH c1900
A good quality antique silver gilt (solid silver with a gold wash) brooch; beautifully modelled as two coiled stylised snakes, each with a garnet/ruby eye and jaws open to a polished agate cabochon, and topped with floral highlights set with natural baroque pearls.
Such an unusual, distinctive & high quality brooch...extremely collectible & wearable too!
CONDITION: Generally very good. Slight signs of wear & gilding loss commensurate with age and use. Natural wear to pearls. Pin fittings old additions, originally a buckle?
DATE/MARKS: Around 1890/1900. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 57 x 47 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
