ANTIQUE GOLD SILVER AMETHYST & DIAMOND HALLEY'S COMET CADUCEUS PIN c1835
An antique solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) comet-shaped pin; beautifully made, the tail modelled as a caduceus / rod of Asclepius (or similar), and set with a foiled amethyst surrounded by tiny rose-cut diamonds. Possibly made to commemorate the passing of Halley's Comet in 1835.
Wow - an unusual, lovely quality & very collectible pin...so wearable too!
CONDITION: Generally very good. Slight signs of wear commensurate with age and use. A few minuscule nicks to diamonds. Detail loss to snake? A few small areas of old solder repair to back, of no consequence.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1830's. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 41 mm long (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 3.4 grams.
