ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ENGLISH SILVER OUROBOROS SNAKE & LUCKY ACORN BROOCH c1890
An antique English sterling silver (of heavy duty hollow construction) brooch; beautifully modelled as a coiled 'Ouroboros' snake (symbolising eternity), with finely chased floral 'scale' decoration, and a tiny acorn charm to its mouth (the Victorian symbol of good luck).
Quite a distinctive brooch...lovely quality, so collectible & ready to wear!
CONDITION: All original and generally very good. Slight signs of wear & tarnish commensurate with age and use. Old repair to pin hinge, probably a replacement - of no consequence. Originally gilded?
DATE/MARKS: Around 1880/90. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 53 x 44 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 17.2 grams.
