ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 18K GOLD ROSE CUT DIAMOND & TURQUOISE SNAKE LONG DROP EARRINGS
A fabulous pair of antique English, solid 18 carat gold (tests thereabouts, chain and lower carat wires) very long drop earrings; the lower sections beautifully modelled as snakes, set with tiny turquoise cabochons and the heads and waved chain connectors set with glistening rose-cut diamonds. The tops and later wires are set with sparkling white diamonds and larger turquoise cabochons.
Such an eyecatching, fine quality & stunningly beautiful pair...so collectable & wearable too!
CONDITION: Generally very good. Probably adapted from a larger piece in antiquity. Will probably have had lower drops originally - there is evidence of the old fittings that could probably do with filing flush for wear (a very simple job). Disparity to turquoise colours natural and perfectly normal.
DATE/MARKS: Mid 19th Century, adapted later. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: Just under 4 ½ inches long overall, diamonds to snakes approx. 4.4 x 3.5 mm, diamonds to tops approx. 3.5 mm diameter (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 16.2 grams together.
