ANTIQUE CHELSEA / ST JAMES GOUYN PORCELAIN MOTHER HEN & CHICKS SEAL FOB c1750
A scarce antique English Chelsea / St. James porcelain (in all probability made by Charles Gouyn) fob; beautifully modelled as a mother hen with three chicks, with hand painted decoration and motto 'Aimons Nos Petits' (Love Our Little Ones), gold bail and fitted with a gold bezel to the base holding a carnelian agate seal, engraved with a heart pierced by three arrows with a French motto in reverse.
Scarce, lovely quality & immensely collectible!
CONDITION: Generally very good. Slight signs of wear & faintest paint loss commensurate with age and use. Seal bezel a little dented - see pictures. Bail a little worn. Possibly slight restoration to porcelain. Please see pictures for overall condition.
DATE/MARKS: Mid 18th Century. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 24 mm tall, base 13 mm diameter (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 3.7 grams.
