FABULOUS EARLY ANTIQUE IRON & SILVER DESK SEALING WAX CASE ROYAL CYPHER SEAL c1690
An antique iron desk seal, with applied silver decoration, including a bust to the top of the sprung-button hinged lid (opening to reveal space for wax) and a crowned cypher monogram (HVH?) to the seal base (for an Earl or Count).
An unusual & most intriguing early example...immensely collectible!
CONDITION: Expected signs of wear, oxidisation & some detail loss commensurate with age and use - please see pictures.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1680/1700. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 84 mm long, seal 16 mm diameter (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 39.1 grams.
