ANTIQUE 22K GOLD MINIATURE PORTRAIT KING CHARLES I ROYALIST MEMORIAL RING c1650
An antique English, high carat gold (tests around 22 carat) Royalist supporter's memorial ring, set with a hand painted enamel miniature portrait of King Charles I. Housed in a box of the period (maybe a little later).
After the execution of Charles I on 30 January 1649, commemorative jewellery such as this ring was produced and worn as a sign of allegiance to the Royalist cause.
Wow - an incredibly scarce, immensely collection piece of history...a true museum piece - these don't come along for sale very often!
CONDITION: Expected signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Shallow denting to bezel, band & back of head. Some fading & surface loss to miniature - please see pictures for overall condition. Some wear to box, closure doesn't function.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1650/80. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: Head 11 x 9 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
RING SIZE: N or 7 US (can be resized within reason).
WEIGHT: Approx. 1.6 grams unboxed.
