PAIR of ANTIQUE GEORGIAN PERIOD 15K GOLD ENAMEL MOURNING RINGS F BARTLETT c1793
A pair of antique English, solid 15 carat gold (tests thereabouts) mourning rings; beautifully made, both with ribbed bands and gently rounded circular faces featuring bands of vitreous black and white enamelling surrounding glazed locket compartments, each holding finely detailed woven hair mementos, one with gilt embellishments. Both engraved 'Frances Bartlett, Ob. 21 March 1793, Æt. 79' to the back.
Extremely high quality and immensely collectable Georgian mourning rings - unusual to find a pair!
CONDITION: All original and very, very good. Slightest signs of enamel wear and very faint scratching to glasses commensurate with age and use. Locket contents showing slight signs of difference through age. One band possibly resized in antiquity.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1793. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: Heads 20 x 18 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
RING SIZE: I and O / 4 ½ and 7 ½ US (not sizeable).
WEIGHT: Approx. 11.5 grams together.
