ANTIQUE ENGLISH GEORGIAN 15K GOLD SEPIA MOURNING LOCKET BROOCH / PENDANT c1790
An antique English, solid 15 carat gold (tests thereabouts) navette-shaped brooch / pendant; beautifully made, with a gently rounded glass holding a woven hair memento, topped with a finely hand painted sepia mourning miniature of a grieving widow leaning against a plaque featuring the bust of a man, reading to the base 'Sacred to Friendship'.
A high quality, immensely collectable Georgian period mourning brooch...wearable too!
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slightest signs of wear to glass and faint denting to back of mount commensurate with age and use. Pin itself an old replacement - of no consequence.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1780/90. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 46 x 27 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 9.8 grams.
