ANTIQUE ENGLISH GEORGIAN PERIOD 9K GOLD SEPIA MINIATURE MOURNING BROOCH c1790
An antique English, solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) navette-shaped brooch; set with a gently rounded glass over a finely hand painted sepia mourning miniature, depicting a grieving widow next to an urn-topped plinth, with the initials 'WJ'.
A fabulous Georgian period mourning brooch in terrific original condition...extremely collectable & very wearable too!
CONDITION: All original and very, very good. Slightest signs of wear commensurate with age and use. A couple of tiny nicks to glass and slight fading to miniature - please see pictures.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1708/90. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 38 x 21 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 7.8 grams.
