ANTIQUE GEORGIAN PERIOD ENGLISH GOLD & SILVER PASTE SEPIA MOURNING SLIDE c1788
An antique English, solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) backed and solid silverfronted mourning slide / pendant; set with a row of clear, foiled pastes surrounding a rounded glass, holding a hand painted sepia mourning miniature depicting a weeping maiden. Engraved to the back 'John Periam(?) Esq. Ob: 29 Dec 1788, Æt. 74'.
CONDITION: Generally good. Originally a brooch, converted in antiquity. Slight signs of wear and some fading to miniature commensurate with age and use, a few light scratches to glass - see pictures. A few small dents here & there, nothing serious.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1788. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 30 x 18 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 4.6 grams.
