FINE QUALITY ANTIQUE GEORGIAN 15K GOLD SEPIA MOURNING REMEMBRANCE LOCKET c1789
An antique English, solid 15 carat gold (tests thereabouts) navette-shaped pendant; beautifully made, with a rounded glass holding a finely hand painted sepia mourning miniature, with applied highlights including tiny seed pearls, gold work & hair snippets, depicting a weeping maiden & child next to an urn topped plinth, reading 'T.O. A(ugust) 4th 1767, D.O. Ju(ne) 20th 1789', attended by a winged cherub holding the banner 'Let The Remembrance Of Their Virtues Console You'. With a second smaller glass locket to the back holding a hair memento topped with a seed pearl initial 'O', surrounded by blue glass.
Such a wonderful example...so collectible & wearable too!
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slight signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Some contents a little displaced under glass. Blue glass to back cracked - see pictures (perfectly secure). Smaller glass to back a little loose.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1789. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 59 x 37 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 21.8 grams.
