RARE ANTIQUE 9K GOLD ENAMEL LORD NELSON MOURNING / MEMORIAL ANCHOR BROOCH c1810
An antique English, solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) mourning brooch; beautifully modelled as an anchor, and decorated with black enamel reading 'NELSON'. To commemorate the death of Lord Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Reputedly the property of his housekeeper, and passed down through her daughter's family.
Very scarce and immensely collectable!
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slightest signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Small area of enamel loss/surface wear - see pictures.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1805. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 29 x 18 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 3.7 grams.
