UNUSUAL ANTIQUE 9K GOLD PEARL MOS MAIORUM WAY OF THE ELDERS VIRTUE RING c1800's
An antique solid 9 carat gold (tests thereabouts) Mos Maiorum ("ancestral custom" or "way of the elders") ring; finely engraved to each panel with the seven traditional values / virtues of Ancient Roman society: Fides (integrity, confidence), Pietas (duty, devotion) Religio (pious practice), Disciplina (self control, discipline), Gravitas, (steadiness, earnestness), Virtus (courage), Dignitas (reputation). With an applied head section set with seed pearls, tiny turquoise cabochons and a tiny foil backed ruby.
Unusual, extremely collectable & so wearable!
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slightest signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Stones a little worn - see pictures.
DATE/MARKS: Early 19th Century. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 6.8 mm wide (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
RING SIZE: Approx. S or 9 ½ US (cannot be resized).
WEIGHT: Approx. 2.6 grams.
