Georgian, C1820
Charming antique seal fob pendant dating from the late Georgian period, circa 1820. The fob body comprises a solid 18k gold donkey with intricate engraved detailing, with a saddle that opens to reveal vinaigrette baskets, all embellished with a stunning amethyst base.
Generally, the donkey symbolizes humility, patience, and hard work. How ever in some cultures, it also represents loyalty and steadfastness. In Christian symbolism, the donkey is associated with the humility of Jesus Christ, as he rode a donkey into Jerusalem. Additionally, in ancient Egyptian and Greek mythology, the donkey was sometimes associated with the god Dionysus, representing fertility and joy.
